Design Council launches inclusive design workshops for Network Rail staff
A series of virtual workshops focused on inclusive design for Network Rail staff are launching on 4th March 2021. Run by Design Council, the workshops will enable colleagues from across Network Rail to hear about and discuss ideas for designing infrastructure that works better for everyone.
Each session will explore a different aspect of inclusive design, from the broadest strategic possibilities of tackling societal challenges to more specific ideas such as creating inclusive digital wayfinding. The workshops series will coincide with Network Rail’s Inclusive Design Guidance launching next month. They will include keynote industry speakers sharing ideas for creating better places as well as opportunities to discuss how Network Rail could be more inclusive. Speakers include Danna Walker, Helen Pineo, Sophie Thomas, Xavier Brice and Hannah Barham-Brown, amongst others. The work builds on Network Rail and Design Council’s partnership to embed a strong design culture across the organisation.
“Network Rail is committed to inclusivity. An inclusive approach to planning, design and management is an opportunity to make places that reflect the diversity of people who want to use them”
Anthony Dewar, Professional Head Buildings and Architecture, Network Rail
These latest workshops are part of Design Council’s wider Inclusive Environments Programme. This raises awareness about the importance of designing places that meet the needs of the diversity of people who want to use them – building understanding, buy-in, expertise and enabling culture change across organisations. As well as benefiting from bespoke training the programme includes a comprehensive Inclusive Environments Hub, a unique resource bringing together best practice and guidance on the topic, as well as a free online training course open to anyone.
