Planning ​Minister announces 16 new Built for Life awarded housing schemes

Today Planning Minister Nick Boles announced the 16 new housing developments across the UK awarded the Built for Life commendation.

A range of commended schemes from urban to rural, large and small is showcased on the newly launched builtforlifehomes.org.

Built for Life is a commendation available for developers to demonstrate their achievement of excellence under the Building for Life 12 (BfL 12) industry standard tool for well-designed new homes.

BfL 12 is a partnership between Design Council Cabe, The Home Builders Federation and Design for Homes.

BfL12 is a tool to enable design conversations that shape development proposals in a neighbourhood. Its 12 questions provide a structure for discussions between local communities, the local planning authority, the developer and other stakeholders, to ensure that the design of better places to live – places that are as attractive, functional and sustainable. 

We’ve examined each of the winning schemes robustly and independently with a group of 19 of our Built Environment Experts. The examination system is now in place to examine future schemes.  To find out how to get involved please do get in touch.
