Win a place on City University’s MA in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership

This week I spoke at ICLCity2014, an annual conference about Innovation, Creativity and Leadership held at City University to launch their scholarship competition.

This is the second year that Design Council has partnered with City University on their scholarship competition for the Masters in Innovation, Creativity and Leadership. The overall winner will receive a full scholarship for the course worth at least £16,500.

This year’s brief links into our recently launched Active by Design campaign and asks entrants to consider how to increase activity levels in buildings and public places.

Through our Active by Design initiative we aim to use design to create places that make it easier for people to live healthier lives.

So for this year’s competition we’re asking participants to propose ideas which will encourage people to increase their everyday levels of activity. These ideas must be directly related to a building or public space the entrant knows, for example it could consider a place of work or study, or a public space such as a park, shopping centre, gallery or library.

For example, what changes could be made to the design of the buildings and external areas of a university campus?

Alternatively, a proposal could look at the potential for new products and improved graphics in a place to encourage activity or rethink how people travel to a place.

Entries need to be submitted by 13 June 2014, the judging will take place by 11 July 2014, meaning that successful entrants could start the MA course this September. Full details on the competition and how to enter can be found on the City University website.

We are particularly excited that City University is interested in creating an active campus and winners will have the option to pursue their submitted ideas throughout the term of the course.

We will be working closely with City to review all entries and select the winning idea, and if the winners choose, they will be supported by the university to turn their ideas into action.
