Skills for Planet
Powering designers for the green transition by 2030.
Upskilling one million designers in green design skills by 2030.
We are on a bold mission to equip designers with the skills needed to shape a regenerative, resilient and inclusive world for all, reducing emissions, pollution and waste and helping the natural world to flourish.
We can’t achieve this mission alone: we need to ignite a movement.

Measuring our impact.
Design shapes the world around us. Upskilling 1 million UK designers with Skills for Planet would harness the power of design for good, enabling design to have a positive impact on the planet and its people.
Measuring the impact of this ambitious mission requires us to track the number of designers being upskilled, as well as to capture impact stories that demonstrate a wider shift in design mindsets, behaviours, structures and systems.
Being upskilled is dynamic and it is therefore difficult to pin down one singular definition of ‘upskill’. As such, we have defined it as a set of four categories: Awareness, Development, Integration and Leadership. We will be tracking the impact of our Skills for Planet mission across these categories.
What are the Green Design Skills?
We have created a Skills for Planet Blueprint to map out the critical green skills that all designers need to be able to put green design into practice, providing a shared language that will make cross-sector conversations and skills-building possible.
Since launching the Blueprint, people from across the design community have been creating practical resources to help embed green design skills in practice. Follow in the footsteps of our partners and start embedding the Blueprint for yourself.
