Andy Roberts
Andy is an urban designer and member of the Royal Town Planning Institute with more than 19 years of experience in professional practice within the public and private sectors, and particular expertise in regenerative urban design. He has led this aspect of Planit’s mission towards Regenerative Practice, comprising researching, adapting, creating, and applying new tools within the practice’s urban design work.
His role is to lead Planit’s Urban Design team’s design thinking through a variety of scales from city, neighborhood, and site; applying his expertise in overseeing the development of visions, concepts, and design codes; liaising with the delivery teams to ensure the overall framework of design principles are ultimately realized through detailed design and construction.
Project examples include an urban design strategy and vision for Sheffield City Centre; the production of a Town Centre Residential Design Guide for Stockport as part of delivering 4,000 units through a Mayoral Development Agency; and the provision of a new Garden Village which would facilitate the regeneration of Hyde Town Centre.
He has led community engagement design workshops and inquiry by design exercises typically involving a large number of stakeholders such as elected council members, English Heritage, Design Council, and the Homes and Communities Agency. He is a member of a number of external design panels, working for both the Design Council as a Built Environment and High Street Task Force Expert, and Sheffield Design Panel.
