Claire Potter is a circular economy designer, researcher, author, and educator based in Brighton, UK. Claire set up her multi-disciplinary design studio in 2008, which to date has completed multiple award-winning projects ranging from landscapes, interior architecture, products, and research projects. Education and engagement play a large role in the studio's design work, and in 2022, CPD designed and delivered an EU-funded city-wide circular economy online education platform for ages 5-18 across Brighton and Hove. Claire is also a Senior Lecturer and course convenor for the BSc and BA Product Design degrees at the University of Sussex. Since Claire created the module ‘The Role of Design in the Circular Economy’ in 2013, the aspects of both circularity and regenerative design have now permeated all aspects of the BSc and BA pathways, with circularity being a golden thread that runs through the degrees.

British Standards and international standards also form part of Claire’s work as a member of the BSi Committee BS8887 – Design for MADE and also as a sector expert for ECOS (Environmental Coalition on Standardisation), working on technical committees developing standards originating from the European Commission’s Single Use Plastic Directive (e.g., attachment of bottle caps/lids and the circular design of fishing gear). Claire’s first book, ‘Welcome to the Circular Economy – the next step in sustainable living,’ was published by Laurence King in the UK and USA in 2021.
