Dan Jones
Dan is an architect and co-founder of the architecture practice Civic (2005). Dan has provided professional design services and strategic enabling advice as an architect working with community groups and their local councils since 1998.
Civic received the National Architect of the Year Award for Environmental Excellence, including an RIBA Special Community Architecture Award for its work on the Gamlingay Eco Hub community centre, South Cambridgeshire. The Department of Energy and Climate Change called the Eco Hub ‘the greenest community centre in the country’. The Department for Communities and Local Government Decentralisation and Big Society Research Division used it as an exemplar of community action working in the spirit of the new Community Rights.
Dan has contributed regularly to Design Council collaborations with industry since 2009, including as a Playshaper Facilitator (Dept of Families & Childcare); High Streets Task Force Expert (Institute of Place Management); Design Code Pathfinder Support Programme Panellist (Dept for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities); and Buildings & Architecture Academy Facilitator (Network Rail). Dan is also a Civic Trust Awards assessor, a member of the GLA’s Specialist Assistance Team (Regeneration), and sits on Design Review Panels for Oxford, Enfield, Hounslow, Kingston, and Bexley.
Dan has taught Architecture at Cambridge, the AA, London Met, Sheffield, and Oxford Brookes universities.
