Karl FitzGerald
Karl is a Projects Director and Commercial Specialist in the government’s Infrastructure and Projects Authority with 30 years’ experience in consultancy and the public sector. He is a Chartered Civil Engineer with a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from University College Dublin and a Master's degree in Interdisciplinary Design for the Built Environment from the University of Cambridge. Experienced in infrastructure planning and large-scale development projects, Karl is also an accredited change practitioner and trained mediator.
In his advisory role to central government departments, Karl focuses on the delivery of major economic development projects. His portfolio includes the £4.5 billion Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF), Freeports, New Prisons, and initiatives to decarbonise the national electricity network. Additionally, Karl plays a pivotal role in supporting complex programmes such as Great British Nuclear.
In Karl's previous role at Homes and Communities Agency (now Homes England), he led the ATLAS technical specialist team. There, he accelerated delivery of large-scale mixed-use developments through the planning process, advising and brokering between public and private sector entities. He provided technical direction to Northstowe New Town and the Hospital Sites Programme. Karl champions interdisciplinary collaboration and integration of diverse professional disciplines to realise quality design outcomes.
