Kay Richardson
Kay is a Chartered Landscape Architect with an MA in Urban Design, specialising in the heritage sector. Their work revolves around navigating dynamic and challenging landscapes. Kay advocates for a landscape-led approach to design, exploring diverse pathways to knowledge and weaving compelling narratives for regenerative visions that incorporate the more-than-human. Kay seeks to embed neuroinclusivity within practice by engaging with multifaceted projects in innovative ways.
With extensive experience as a senior designer in Local Government, Kay transitioned into expert landscape advisor roles within central government public bodies. Their focus spans strategic, regional, and corporate objectives while fostering transformative place-based social and public value. They collaborate to address challenges in at-risk places, embedding creative thought, socially responsive design, and regenerative practices.
In 2018, Kay joined University College London's PhD research program. Their independent doctoral research, rooted in Critical Heritage, reconceptualises future practice by exploring the complex themes and aspects of placemaking through critical inquiry.
Outside academia, Kay founded and directed a wood-fired community kitchen, establishing a local network of artisan suppliers and trainers—a testament to their commitment to business with a social purpose. Kay's personal commitment to climate action spans over 15 years, from participation in the UNESCO Global Action Programme.
