Kyungeun Sung

Dr. Kyungeun Sung is a Senior Lecturer in Product Design at De Montfort University, where she is also MA/MSc Product Design Programme Leader and Faculty Head of Research Ethics. She has over 20 years of experience in design learning, practice, teaching, and research, with a BSc in Industrial Design at KAIST, MSc in Strategic Product Design at TU Delft, and PhD in Sustainable Design at Nottingham Trent University. Her research is broadly concerned with design and sustainability, with a focus on upcycling, circular economy, and net zero. She has research interests and expertise in sustainable design, craft production, business supply chains, behaviour, consumption, and lifestyles. Her research uses design as a tool for new product development, service innovation, behaviour change, scaling up niche sustainable practices/behaviours, and transitioning to the circular economy and net zero.

She has edited two books: "Research Journeys to Net Zero: Current and Future Leaders" with Routledge and "State-of-the-Art Upcycling Research and Practice" with Springer. She has published over thirty peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings with high-impact journals and quality publishers. She is an appointed member of the AHRC Peer Review College and the UKRI Interdisciplinary Assessment College. She has industry experience working as a product designer and UX designer at Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics.
