Matt Lally
Matt is a Director of international planning, design, and engineering consultancy Arup, where he is a leader within the Integrated City Planning Team and is UKIMEA Urban Regeneration Leader. He is also a Non-Executive Director of the Academy of Urbanism. Drawing on over 30 years of experience, Matt has worked as an urban planner, often leading multi-disciplinary teams on a wide-ranging portfolio of major planning and development projects throughout the UK, Europe, Australasia, Middle East, Asia, and Africa.
Areas of specialism include plan-making, urban regeneration, infrastructure-led development, and integrated urban development strategies that closely interweave transformative place-making, economic development, social value, and environmental sustainability. Past roles with the Design Council have included design reviews and workshops related to urban regeneration and station-oriented development and the preparation of the Design in Neighbourhood Planning publication.
Matt has been responsible for several Government best practice research and guidance publications in the UK (such as the Urban Design Compendium) and internationally related to different facets of urban planning, design, housing, and masterplanning. He is a frequent visiting university lecturer and international conference speaker.
