Rachel Toms CMLI, MFPH, FRSA, is an expert in healthy urbanism and transport decarbonization. Originally a landscape architect, she has designed streets and public spaces in the UK, Ireland, India, and Nepal, and has delivered town centre regeneration and managed social housing. Since 2014, Rachel has led built environment strategies for the NHS’s Healthy New Towns programme, the Mayor of London, Public Health England, and the Design Council.

Rachel now steers Sustrans’ work to increase active travel in existing urban areas and new developments across the UK, encompassing both infrastructure design and behaviour change initiatives. Outside of work, Rachel’s passions are skiing, cycling, and practicing her French and Spanish – ideally with food and wine.
