Richard Stones
Richard is the first serving police officer worldwide to be appointed a Chartered Security Professional (CSyP). In 2015, he was awarded an OBE for services to Business Security. On retirement, Richard was appointed Head of Loss Prevention for Next before co-founding CPTED-UK Ltd, an international security consultancy for the built environment. CPTED-UK provides all security support throughout the project lifecycle, from concept design to operational handover and ongoing facility use.
His passion for retail and business led to him being appointed to the High Street Task Force, providing specialist crime and security support. This resulted in CPTED-UK delivering the first-of-its-kind BRE Social Value assessment for Poland’s largest retail estate owners that connected ESG/Social Value with security. Significant projects include the security master planning for the UK’s largest film studios and the Master Plan for an international design project managed by the Mayor of Manchester intended to renovate and rebuild Piccadilly Gardens.
Throughout his career, Richard has managed projects for the Home Office, European Commission, and UNICRI. He still serves as a technical advisor for EU-funded safety and security projects at UNICRI, where he was a contributing author to their Protection of Crowded Spaces guidelines.
